Gabriel Michael Donovan was the first child born to John Donovan, an orthopedic surgeon, and Linda Donovan, a nurse in New York City, New York. The two parents had met at the hospital that they both worked out and, like it typically happened, they fell in love at work. Three years after the birth of their son they would welcome a daughter, Gillian Marie Donovan. They had a seemingly perfect little life, at least on the outside. The parents, though, worked very long days and nights and often times the two young children were raised by a nanny or their grandparents, depending on the day. Gabe, who didn’t seem to mind, took to puzzles and games almost immediately as a child, using his brain to solve any problem that came his way.
When he got to school it was quite clear that Gabe was incredibly bright. Math and science were his forte; he excelled very highly and he was always the one student to raise his hand in class to the point where his teacher wouldn’t let him answer anymore. Although this was great for his report cards, it didn’t make him very popular among the students and he was often ridiculed and bullied, getting stuffed into lockers and coming home with black eyes. This caused Gabe to retreat into himself and he found solace in video games and he would spend hours upon hours at the arcade after school. Playing video games made him feel like he was at home and that he was the king of his own castle, at least for a little while.
High school didn’t help this matter at all. Not only was he was smartest person in his class, he was also the nerd who was extremely quiet. While most guys his age were worried about who they were going to take to prom, Gabe was more or less concerned about how he would ask a girl out on any sort of date. He did ask a girl out on a date to go to the prom and everything was going seemingly well, that was until he overheard her at prom talking to one of her friends about how she only felt sorry for Gabe and that was the reason that she was going to prom with him. It was absolutely horrible and Gabe left the prom early.
When it came time for college, Gabe opted to attend Carnegie Mellon University for Game Design, a decision that his family wholeheartedly supported. Still, he felt horrible because his parents were both in medicine and there he was, going to school for game design. Still, a change of scenery with new people was exactly what Gabe needed. It allowed him to be around people who were just like him, which was a welcomed change. Sure, he had friends back home who were like him but now he had a whole network of people who were just like him. It helped his anxiety and depression, thus affording him to allow himself to date. While he still had some reservations, mostly stemming from his own lack of self-worth, it was still an opportunity to explore another side of himself. Still, he was homesick and upon graduation he moved back home, getting a job at Rockstar Games within the year.
Life was great; Gabe was once around people that he loved, doing exactly what he loved and it was all going well. When his best friend moved from New York to Boston, things took a turn. Gabe experienced some depression again, caused by his best friend moving away and a breakup with a long term girlfriend. So, in 2006, he applied for a job working at the same company as his best friend in Boston and he moved that same year. He bounced back and he was happy at Irrational Games. It took him a little while to get back into the dating scene but he was finding his way again, navigating a city he didn’t really know and meeting people that didn’t know what a messy and awkward person he could be sometimes.
When Irrational Games closed down in 2014, Gabe was once again unsure of what he was going to do with his life. He found that the depression was coming back, as well as mounting anxiety, despite the fact that he always had a safety cushion of money that he seemingly tucked away for himself. What Gabe had learned throughout the years was that he simply needed a change of scenery to pull him out of his funk and he started applying at various companies across the country. When a job offer from Activision in California came, Gabe jumped at the chance and he was suddenly moving across the country. Even though he had lived on the east coast his entire life, west coast living was something that he took to almost immediately. He enjoyed the sun and the sand and it gave him an opportunity to really focus on his goal of losing weight.
Life, once again, was going according to plans, until late 2015 when his best friend seemingly needed him. If there was one thing Gabe was in life it was loyal so he gave his notice at work, and in January of 2016 he found himself packing up and moving back to Boston. Quickly, he found his footing back in Boston and went to work for In Another Castle, as a game consultant and in social media marketing. He started working at Daybreak Games in late 2017, getting back to his roots.

The man who would be known as The Ghost was once a very promising data engineer for a major computer corporation, and the brainchild behind GhostTech, a new series of computer chips that phased into an intangible state before overheating, yet could still function in this state and hold an incredible amount of data. The prized employee of this company, its executives used his genius to make themselves exceptionally wealthy, spurring his continued productivity with everything from sports tickets to sexual favors from another employee. When the GhostTech project was finally completed, they had his lover killed after she threatened to reveal how the company made her into a call girl for their benefit, causing him to slid into a deep depression. As a result, he eventually infused his body with GhostTech and formed a cyberpathic connection with the company's systems in order to become more productive and escape the traumas of the real world, discovering the woman's murder in the process. Surviving an assassination attempt thanks to the GhostTech in his body, he dispatched the company executives one by one, before eliminating any link to his past life and becoming a full-time corporate saboteur. It should be noted that this origin may be inaccurate, given that Ghost was telling it to the untrustworthy Moonstone, and that his prolonged existence within an intangible state has negatively affected his psyche, including perhaps his memories.
